Chicks Witch Ticks were born when Kristen and Jacqueline began a three year study of Florida natural streams. The adventure continued through many projects, life events, and amazing excursions. The content and photos here are meant as a reminder that women in science are critical, magical, beautiful, and powerful! We can go anywhere, do anything, and we can change the world with our insight, intelligence, intellect, and intuition.
The messages should be real. The stories inspiring and empowering to all. Men and women alike can come here to be enlightened and entertained. We hope that this site helps one person live a better life, open another door, see things in a way they never thought possible, or make decisions and changes that make their world – OUR WORLD – better!
Thanks for coming here. I hope you find a cozy spot on the forest floor to sit and rest. I got your back!

1. Thank the person who nominated you, and link back to their blog.
2. Nominate and link to five other blogs that each have less than 200 followers but that you think deserve more.
3. Spread the Liebster Blog love Karma!
So simple, and a quick way to make someone’s day!

As someone who works in science on a day to day basis I have to say that I would like to see more women in science. Sometimes science especially research feels like an old gentleman’s club. I believe for me the more we have access to how beautiful and beautifully designed Nature is the more we will protect it and cherish it. Great Job on the Blog

Women, in general, I think are some of the most beautiful creations of nature – how natural for them to embark on journeys to find what’s truly beautiful and precious! You said it!! This site is not a feminist site, a anti-man site – it’s a site for everyone but to show women and young women and girls that we can get dirty, wet, and muddy, hold frogs, and study trees, get ticks and scratches and still be beautiful!! Thanks for stopping in – I hope you read the past posts as they run the gamut! ENJOY!

Hi! I am in Massachusetts. Woods Hole is on Cape Cod. Check out the http://www.whoi.edu/ it is the website for the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. It’s an awesome place if you like science and the ocean. The name of the pilot of the Alvin is Will Sellers. He didn get to go down on the first trip but he did on the second. He gave me a styrofoam cup that along with other styrofoam objects were attached to the back of the Alvin. They had signed them with the date and other info. Of course, going down to that depth it shrunk and is about 2 inches tall. Very Cool!!
I saw that you stopped by my blog. That’s how I found you. Yes, astronomy is wicked cool. Years ago my sister and I decided to learn all the constellations in the Northers sky. We finally succeeded and at the same time learned a lot about the universe we live in.
Anyway, I am happy to meet you and I will be back.

After I read this quote from the Chicks with Ticks, I couldn’t help but forward this site to our daughter at Stanford where she is majoring in biology. Alright, ladies, I haven’t commented in awhile . . . but I read you. And it’s a good read every time I do so while I don’t often get involved in these chain-blogger materials . . . I’m paying forward this “Very Inspiring Blogger Award” bit.
I have to apologize to Shannon at Smirk Pretty blog for taking so long on this nomination. I get to comments and readers as often as I can but nominations should really take priority particularly to the other bloggers who I read and who read me.
So here are the details:
The Inspired Blogger award’s requirements look like this:
1. Display the award logo somewhere on the blog.
(get it here: http://our-story-begins.com/2012/06/05/very-inspiring-blogger-award/ ))
2. Link back to the blog of the person who nominated you.
3. State seven things about yourself.
4. Nominate 15 other bloggers for the award and provide links to their blogs.
5. Notify those bloggers that they have been nominated and of the award’s requirements.

Hiya Chicks. What a cool blog you have – and great name for it!
I have to say you have a darn sight more intestinal fortitude than myself – I come from lil’ New Zealand where the most dangerous things we have in our forests are wild boars, dope-growers razor wire and gintraps and cute things like that. You wouldn’t catch me in a stream full of mocassins and gators with a rifle at my back!! I would seriouslly get on my knees and ask you to shoot me rather than enter such waters. My daughter would probably go where you do, but she’s a little bit mad. Ya know, drives drag cars and does rock-climbing in remote and dodgy places, and a few dangerous things as well. I’m not entirely sure where I went wrong there…
Thanks for dropping by my blog – I’m signing up for yours. I’m off to Thailand shortly to play with elephants in jungle territory again, so your hints and tips may come in handy. But I sincerely hope not.
Have a great day – I insist.

Thank you. I shall to my utmost to face the dubious dangers and perilous peculiarities of the Thai jungle with Rambo-like fortitude, and should I survive I will indeed report having done this to all and sundry via my blog and proceed to explain how I did so.
Is it the done thing to take whiskey into the jungle? I am turning 50 in a week or two and wish to intensify my resistance to any failings in my ageing immune system in the most natural way possible. After all, they do use gin under their tonics in Africa, do they not? At least it says so in all the adventure books…
