Beneath the leaf mats they sit in darkness
Waiting waiting for the moon to rise and the winds to die
Slick sticky thickness wriggling wetly
Up through the muck up up they gurgle
Wide mouths wear wicked whiskers
Sucking sounds as they slurp up somethings
In the night
The catfish bite

Madtoms

Wow – I am flattered! Glad you like it – these little guys/gals are very cool to see in the natural habitat.
I sometimes think back to my childhood and how I learned to swim with the catfish and it sends shivers down my spine.
To learn to swim with catfish – sounds amazing – I could write another poem just about that one line!! Thanks for the inspiration – glad you found us!
Love the poem. Did you write it? Write some more, keep them coming.
Yes – I did write it and all the other Lyrical Science poems here. I am full of it – I mean them!! Glad you enjoy. I have actually written poetry and fiction since I was a young girl. Always has been my favorite pastime.
Awesome! Truly. I LOVE it. I see a water painting, with poem.
Flattered – definitely flattered.
I love it! Wonderful poetry!
Intriguing
the cat fish look devoid of colour. Do they change as they age?
I have seen the many shades. More often, a dark brownish black. This photo was not taken by me. They photograph darkish in sunlight. They stay very small (tadpole madtoms) and have poisonous spines!
It’s a very focused piece of writing. I like the way it takes me out of the chatter.
thank you for enjoying. I, like you, must sink below the surface and rest sometimes! I appreciate you stopping in and hope you come back soon.
Wonderful piece!
Thanks for reading. The pieces just come squishing out sometimes….and others it’s humor or serious dramatic reality – who the heck ever knows! I hope you enjoyed it all. Please keep coming back! I need validation…lol/
You’ve got great insights about Tick Photography, keep up the good work!
Interesting. Not sure I agree 100% on the entire post but overall I would say you hit the nail on the head with it. Great Blog by the way, I’ll be adding this to my favourites
